Educational offer
The visit to the Mining Museum for educational groups is fully guided and organized as follows:
Permanent exhibition: mining, mineral resources and lead mining in Bellmunt del Priorat (duration: 1 hour).
Audiovisual presentation La Foneria: explains the metallurgical process of lead production (duration: 15 minutes).
Mine visit (50 minutes). The most interesting part of the experience is the guided tour of the first level of the Eugènia Mine. The route is completed on foot and allows visitors to descend to a depth of 35 metres and explore approximately 700 metres of galleries within the oldest section of the mine, developed during the last third of the 19th century. Visitors can observe the geomorphological characteristics of the deposit as well as the methods used to prospect for and extract the ore, thanks to a series of displays depicting the different tasks carried out by the miners.
Mineral search and identification (20 minutes). After leaving the mine, participants take part in a mineral-search activity on the spoil heap, where waste rock was deposited. With the prior explanation provided at the museum, students can identify and recognize the main characteristics of the collected minerals.
