The Mining Museum

The Bellmunt del Priorat Mining Museum, located in the old industrial complex of the Eugènia Mine, is an interpretation center for lead mining in the Priorat region.

History of the Museum

The Bellmunt Mining Museum was founded in 2002 as the culmination of a long process of recovery and enhancement of the municipality's mining heritage. The project was initiated by the then mayor Joaquim Torné i Roigé, who, thanks to his dedication and effort, made the creation of the institution possible.

Since its foundation, the Museum has had the objective of protecting, conserving and disseminating heritage elements related to mining activity, in order to become an effective instrument of local development, both socially, economically and culturally.

The Museum is located in the Eugènia mine complex, close to the town centre, officially inaugurated in December 2002. Since its inception, the institution has been part of the Territorial System of the Science and Technology Museum of Catalonia, and the municipality of Bellmunt del Priorat, thanks to its rich mining heritage, is part of the Industrial Tourism Network of Catalonia.
